About Us - A brief History
The firm of Kearns Heffernan Foskin LLP (then Kinsella Heffernan) was established in 1982.
Paul Foskin joined the practice in 1996 and joined the partnership in 1998. Paul specilaises in commercial law.
Sharon Kearns joined the practice in 2004 and became a partner in 2021. Sharon has experience in all areas with particular expertise in conveyancing and probate.
Frank Heffernan, one of the founders of the practice, retired in 2014. In his capacity as a Notary Public, continues to provide services to our clients and to the public at large.

Paul Foskin
Paul Foskin joined the practice in 1996 and the partnership in 1998. Although he works in all areas of law his particular expertise is in commercial and company law.
Sharon Kearns
Sharon joined the practice in 2004 as a Legal Executive. She completed her apprenticeship with Heffernan Foskin and qualified as a solicitor in 2011. She became a partner in 2021. Sharon specialises in all aspects of conveyancing, wills, probate and succession law.
Frank Heffernan
Frank Heffernan retired as a partner at the end of 2014 and now works with the firm in a consultancy capacity so that the practice continues to benefit from his extensive knowledge and experience. He also continues to provide services as a Notary Public to our clients and to the public at large.

Our Legal Team
Paul Foskin (Partner)
Paul Foskin is from Waterford. He acquired a BCL Degree from UCD in 1986. He was apprenticed and worked as a solicitor in Dublin and in Waterford until 1996 when he joined Heffernan Foskin (then Kinsella Heffernan) solicitors. He became a partner in 1998. He works in all areas of general practice but specialises in commercial and company law.

Sonya Fox
Sonya is a Waterford native who started her legal journey in WIT where she graduated with an Honours Degree in Legal and Business Studies. She continued her studies in UCC with a post graduate LLB Degree and a Masters in Law. Sonya started her legal career and completed her traineeship at another Waterford law firm, where she worked until she moved to Heffernan Foskin in 2020. She qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and has always worked in general practice gaining a varied experience in the areas of commercial law, property law, wills and litigation.

Helen Roche
Helen graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with a BA (Hons) in Law and Business and later qualified as a Civil and Commercial Mediator. Helen began her legal career in Heffernan Foskin in 2013 and then went on to gain vast experience in general practice before returning to Kearns Heffernan Foskin in 2022. Helen is our Legal Executive who specialises in Probate, Conveyancing and Commercial Law.

Frank Heffernan (Consultant)
Frank Heffernan is from Waterford, qualified as a solicitor in 1980 having been apprenticed in Dublin for a number of years prior to that. He was one of the founding partners of Kinsella Heffernan, Solicitors, in 1982 and worked in all areas of general practice but specialised in litigation and family law. In 1999 he qualified as a notary public and offers that service to clients of the firm.

Peter Cusack
Peter Cusack qualified as a solicitor in 1969 and practised as a solicitor with his own practice in Kildare until the late 1990’s. He joined Kinsella Heffernan Foskin in 2001 when he relocated to Waterford. Peter has experience in general practice and specialises in Conveyancing, Probate, and Land Registry First Registration applications. Peter officiallly retired in 2010 on reaching retirement age but continues to work as a part time assistant/consultant.
